I found myself grumbling about Chassenat this morning. Chassenat is the house we’ve been staying at for the last 6 weeks. It’s rather grand. As I staggered to the kitchen for my first cup of coffee, I grumbled, “Gee, this is really too far.” It’s 35 steps and three doorways to the kitchen. I grumbled some more as I stood watching the electric kettle heat up. It was taking forever. As I waited, I reminisced about making coffee in our camper. It’s so easy. I don’t even have to get out of bed. I just stretch out my arm and hit the button on the kettle. I don’t even have to sit up. Usually I snooze a little longer until the water boils. You can’t do that at Chassenat.
Throughout the day, I’ve had more grumbles. I glared disparagingly at my bed as I made it up. The furniture is so predictable here. A bed is still a bed in the middle of the day. It doesn’t become two sofas and a table. How dull. Walking from room to room looking for my shoes I observed that we never lose stuff in Merlin. There’s no place to lose anything. Then I washed the dishes. We seemed to have used every cup in the cupboard. In Merlin we have 2 cups and that’s all I ever wash. Housekeeping in general is a snap. It takes about 30 seconds to sweep the floor.
In the middle of the day, I realized what was really wrong with Chassenat. It didn’t have wheels. I couldn’t move the sofa to the nearest window, pull out the throttle, crank up the motor and drive away. That’s a big defect in this house. Even if it did have wheels, it’s too big. We’d never find a parking space.
I’m getting itchy feet. They’ve been pampered for the last 6 weeks but they’re itchy nonetheless. Happily, the great journey resumes on Saturday. We’ll see Chassenat in the rear view mirror and look ahead to new adventures. My bags are packed.
